Primordial Soils - EOSS / UWC Samos (750 ml)
The “Primordial Soils” wine is more than just a bottle—it is a story bottled by the Vassiliou family, whose roots in viticulture trace back generations. Harvested by hand in the early morning hours, when the grapes are at their freshest, the vineyard in Prosilia, Platanos village sits at an altitude of 670 meters. Its northwestern exposure, combined with acidic, gravelly, and shale soils, creates a rare terroir that imparts character and individuality to every sip.
From the very first encounter, the wine captivates with its mineral-driven expression, shaped by hard limestone and flint soils. The aromatic profile unfolds in layers: first, the freshness of forest and pine needles, then the complexity of bitter orange zest, exotic spices, butter, and brioche. This slow evolution in the glass makes each tasting a discovery, rewarding those who appreciate wines that reveal themselves with patience and time.
On the palate, the wine challenges expectations. Though it is crafted from Muscat, it bears no resemblance to conventional dry Muscat wines. Instead, it offers remarkable volume, texture, and depth, balancing earthy and peppery notes with a surprising touch of warmth and oiliness. Its mosaic of acidity, minerality, and fruit provides structure and ensures a lingering finish—making it a natural companion to high gastronomy. Pair it with refined seafood dishes, grilled fish, or delicate shellfish creations to experience its full potential.
What makes “Primordial Soils” truly exceptional, however, is the legacy it carries. The vines were planted by the great-grandfather of current winemaker Nick Vassiliou, nurtured by his father, and are now being cared for by the next generation. This continuity reflects a deep respect for heritage and land, as even the youngest member of the family, 14-year-old Costas, has already declared his commitment: “No matter what I do in life, I will not give up my grandfather’s vineyards.”
This wine is not only a celebration of terroir but also a testament to family passion, endurance, and tradition. Elegant, complex, and expressive, Primordial Soils is the kind of bottle destined for memorable occasions—a wine that embodies both place and people with every pour.
