What to Buy in Samos: A Local's Guide to the Island's Best Products

Jul 11, 2026Antigoni's Deli Concept

Samos is famous for its pine-fringed beaches, the birthplace of Pythagoras, and some of the most beautiful anchorages in the eastern Aegean. But ask anyone who has spent a real week on the island and they will tell you the same thing: you do not leave Samos empty-handed. The island's volcanic-and-mountain soil, generations of small producers, and a sweet-wine tradition that goes back to antiquity make it one of the great pantries of the Aegean.

This is a local's guide to what is genuinely worth bringing home — and, if your suitcase is already full, what you can order to your door after the trip. We run Antigoni's Deli Concept, a deli and wine bar in the heart of Pythagorion, so this list is the same one we give friends who ask “what should I actually buy here?”

1. Muscat of Samos wine — the island's icon

If you buy one thing on Samos, make it a bottle of Muscat. The sweet white Muscat of Samos is a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) wine, made from the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grape grown on the terraced slopes of Mount Ampelos. The most celebrated style is the Vin Doux Naturel — luscious, honeyed and aromatic — but the island also produces drier styles and fortified expressions worth discovering.

Much of the island's production is centred on the historic growers' cooperative, the Union of Vinicultural Cooperatives of Samos (E.O.S.). Browse the Samos Wines collection for bottles from Samos itself, or explore the full Wines & Local Spirits range if you want to build a mixed Greek case.

2. Extra virgin olive oil & olives

Greek olive oil needs no introduction, and the oils of the eastern Aegean are among the country's finest — grassy, peppery and cold and green in the glass. It is the easiest, most useful souvenir you can bring home: a bottle of proper extra virgin olive oil will outshine anything on a supermarket shelf back home.

See the Olive Products collection for oils, table olives, pastes and more, or go straight to the Olive Oil selection for a bottle to cook and finish with.

3. Greek honey

Aegean honey is in a class of its own. Bees working the wild thyme, pine and mountain herbs of the islands produce honey that is intensely floral and complex — nothing like the anonymous jars most of us grew up with. A jar of good Greek honey over yogurt, or simply on bread, is one of the small luxuries of the region.

Look through Herbs, Honey & Natural Products for honey alongside the herbs and botanicals of the island.

4. Wild herbs & Greek mountain tea

Greek kitchens run on wild oregano, thyme, sage and the famous tsai tou vounou (Greek mountain tea, Sideritis) — a caffeine-free herbal infusion that Greeks have drunk for centuries against winter colds. Dried herbs travel beautifully, weigh nothing, and bring a piece of the Aegean hillside into your cooking for months. Find them in the Herbs, Honey & Natural Products collection.

5. Traditional sweets & spoon sweets

Greek hospitality is built on something sweet. From glyko tou koutaliou (spoon sweets — whole fruit preserved in syrup) to nut-and-honey confections, these keep well and make wonderful gifts. Browse Traditional Sweets & Desserts for the sweet side of the pantry.

6. Mastiha of the Aegean

From the neighbouring islands of the eastern Aegean comes mastiha — the aromatic resin of the mastic tree, used in liqueurs, sweets, spoon-sweets and even skincare. It is one of the most distinctive flavours of Greece and a conversation-starter of a gift. Explore the Mastiha collection.

7. Natural olive-oil cosmetics & soap

The same olive oil that flavours the table also makes some of the gentlest skincare there is. Traditional olive-oil soaps and natural cosmetics are light to pack and last for months. See the Natural Bodycare collection.

8. A ready-made taste of Samos
